Dog friendly mudgee wine escape.

A weekend wine escape in Mudgee (that's dog friendly)

Imagine the sun beaming down and seeping into your skin, with the subtle rustling of the breeze in the background. In your hand is an elegant, stemmed glass that gently slopes into the cool condensation encapsulating a golden glass of Riesling.

How beautiful are those days spent in a wine region, getting happier and happier after each wine tasting. The sophistication, the delicious food pairings, the laughs.

But what’s difficult is knowing where to go. Where’s good? What route should I take? Where’s dog friendly?

So we’ve put together a 2-day guide of dog-friendly in Mudgee.

Day 1

Logan Wines

Prepare to say 'ooooo' as you step into the grandeur of Logan Wines, where every detail is crafted to immerse you in a world of discovery. From the moment you enter the tasting room, with its lofty ceilings and abundant natural light, you'll feel a sense of tranquillity wash over you.

The tasting journey that showcases the diverse collections and styles of Logan wines, each story a testament to the family's dedication to their craft. Don't miss the opportunity to sample my personal favourites, the Hannah Rose with its luscious red fruit flavours, and the off-menu delights of Weemala Pinot Gris and Weemala Riesling.

And for your furry companions, they must stay on the balcony to be spoilt by the luxurious vistas of Mount Knowles and Mount Frome.

First Ridge

Converted containers perched a the top hill, First Ridge welcomes you with its unique charm and panoramic views of the surrounding hills. You're invited to opt-in to the extensive tasting list at your own pace.

The Italian varietals each stand out in their own right and has earnt First Ridge Gourmet Traveller's 'Best Small Cellar Door in Mudgee' twice.

Robert Stein

Embark on a journey through history and tradition at Robert Stein, where a warm welcome awaits both you and your four-legged companion. Keep an eye out for the friendly greeting party, who may just hop into your car from the moment you arrive.

Expect a rich heritage of Riesling as you learn about its myriad expressions and styles, accompanied by a tantalizing array of lunch options. Whether you opt for a lavish spread of local produce or a comforting meat pie from the food truck, you are guaranteed to not want to leave.

Day 2

Prepare to be captivated by Lowe's picturesque charm, making it the quintessential spot for an Instagram snap. As you pass through the delicate iron gates, you'll find yourself immersed in a garden oasis, each corner revealing a new enchanting scene.

Begin your tasting journey amidst the shaded tranquillity of the garden, where tables crafted from oak barrels beckon you to savour the sparkles and light whites amidst the lush greenery. Venture onward to the sun-drenched patio, offering sweeping views of the meticulously manicured lawn and tranquil pond, where you'll indulge in the delicate rosés and light reds.

The final stop is the expansive shed adorned with antique ornaments, where bold reds await. Don't miss the opportunity to meet George, the winery's beloved dog, before departing with a bottle of your favourite wine to sip in your chosen spot.

Cellar by Gilbert

Get comfy for a culinary experience at Cellar by Gilbert, where choosing from their extensive menu is a challenge. A recommendation for large groups is to get one of each on the menu, which was repeatedly repeated by our group until the slightly extravagant suggestion became reality.

Savour the tasting experience, with wines presented in pairs, allowing for a thorough comparison of their unique flavours. And be sure not to overlook the nearby cheese shop, a perfect complement to your take-home wines.

A peacefully perfect dog-nap spot for your furry friend.

Prepare for a meticulously curated tasting experience at Vinifera, where every detail has been carefully considered. Begin with a refreshing palette cleanser of sparkling wine, setting the stage for the sensory journey ahead.

Choose between flights of white or red wines, each accompanied by an impeccably designed tasting sheet. Take your time to savour each glass, with all wines presented at the same time, allowing you to choose your own destiny.

The back of the winery offers a front-row seat to the local amateur airport, adding an element of excitement to your visit. Dogs are to be kept on a lead.

Conclude your day with a leisurely stop at Burnbrae, where the laid-back atmosphere invites you to unwind as the sun sets. Enjoy a quick tasting to find your preferred bottle, then settle in with an ice cream on the lawn to soak in the serene surroundings.

For your four-legged friend, there's plenty to explore at the back of the property, from sniffing out hidden treasures to splashing in the nearby stream. With hearty food options and a welcoming atmosphere, Burnbrae provides the perfect setting to wind down after a day of exploration.
